Better, hook your back up system so it comes on when power fails. (relay, that will electrically start your generator from the battery.)

Why not invent something like an electromagnetically held bucket of water above the bed when the power fails the bucket will tip and you will awaken. Reason being that you might be deep in the land of nod having been out on the pop the night before and that you might not hear an audible alarm or the batteries in it may have gone flat.

Dream on

emergency lighting can have this circuitry so the battery light come on when the power fails.

Our smoke alarms change from a green LED to yellow if the mains goes off.

So, I'm sure these plugs must exist. Or if you can fiddle a bit i bet you could put a second (but quieter) piezo buzzer in a mains smoke alarm to go off when the mains goes.

good idea

I have used these in my job to find fuses in unlabelled fuseboards.
They have a battery inside with a relay and buzzer.
You plug it in and remove the fuses one at a time until the buzzer sounds and you have found the right fuse.
Unfortunately i have to tell you that they are not intended for permanent energization as this would damage them.
They are just meant for occasional limited use.
They are available from electrical wholesalers.
