My 1990 Ford Ranger is a 2.3 manual trany truck, 2 wd. I was driving it down the road last week when it all of a sudden turned off. First thought it was the fuel pump. Tested it, not that. Engine wants to start but just can't. Changed the fuel filter, wasn't that. Checked spark, spark plug wire fell apart. Changed spark plugs and wires. Still didn't work. Checked spark again on both sides (this four cylinder uses 8 plugs and wires coming from two seperate coils), spark on passenger side, no spark on driver side. Purchased new ignition coil, installed. Still, won't start. Purchased an ignition module, still won't work.

The way I see it, it might be the computer or it might be that I have to reset the fuel switch that normally shuts the fuel line down when an accident occurs. Problem is, I don't know where it is.

Furthermore, I don't know if I am heading in the right direction or not with this. Anyone with some experience in this matter, please reply.

a99blkdog, as I stated, I tried a new coil, didn't work. I have a manual, that's how I found out about the fuel switch.

Fuel switch is down by the passenger side kick panel but it sounds to me like a module or computer problem get a used computer and try it that's the cheapest at first if is the problem replace it with a new one if not i am not sure but after all this trying to start it make sure you change the oil you'll have gas in the oil and you don't want that , cause then you'll be doing all for nothing

Whenever you get an oillight you want to stop right away! Usually oil lights are set to light up at very low pressures, so you might have already damaged your engine, listen for knocking sound coming from the engine, if you do hear a clear mechanical knocking I'm afraid you might have ruined your engine and a rebuild may be necessary... As far as your shifting problem goes it seams to be something wrong specifically with 4th gear maybe a bad syncro or bearing. Drain the oil and see if you find gold/brass colored shaving in it, this means bad syncro and a rebuild could be nessesary... Sorry to bring bad news, but have a shop look it over if you can

Need to check if you are getting Voltage DC power to the ignition coils.

did you check the tif module located on the side of the distributor. Ford just settled a huge class action suit on these TFI modules---heat kills them
