I know of a couple of people who answer questions under more than one screen name. I don't know what their motives are.

According to Mr. Lonely, he's able to answer his own questions under another username, give himself best answer, and look like a genius. Also, when one username's time limit is reached, he can switch to the other username, and stay on his computer another 3 hours.
he just confided this to me in an email.

Who cares? I know it's against Yahoo policy, but what's the big deal? Maybe it just depends on the mood they are in when they logged on their computer...
