I’m overwhelmed with the choices. I’m looking a quality mattress (not inexpensive). If you have any knowledge about mattresses or have purchased one lately, your help would be greatly appreciated. (Please don’t waste my time or yours with unnecessary answers.)

Hey. I just bought a Simmons Beauty-rest, because I did the research too and found it had the highest satisfaction rate. But, I also learned something about mattress stores: AVOID THEM. When a mattress store offers a warranty that seems too good to be true, it IS. A LOT of people get sucked into thinking that they can return the mattress if its too firm, etc, but that's NOT THE CASE. I bought a King-sized, firm set from WaL-Mart on line, and it cost me $1,058.00. That price included shipping and setup for $52, which was a FAR CRY cheaper than any mattress store I checked on. And, as with all Wal-Mart purchases, you can RETURN IT RISK FREE within 30 days for your loot back, OR exchange it within 90 days for a softer/firmer/smaller/bigger mattress. I would really do the checking around, but I'm 100% sure you won't find a better deal than that. Good luck, and one more thing: I LOVE THIS BED!!!

I would advise you to be specific about your needs. It doesn't matter what others say, it's your back and your comfort that matters. If you are use to sleeping on a soft mattress, don't let the salesman convince you otherwise. We bought a Sealy posturepedic mattress, which according to the salesman is a fantastic product, and I haven't slept in two years. On top of that, I have severe back problems because of it. I have tried the memory foam and did not like it. Some do. Look at your needs and no one elses. Everyone will try to convince you that this or that is better. To them, maybe. Try several, and don't buy on a last minute decision. Be sure. And ask them to specify exactly what their 30, 60 or 90 day trial periods consist of. We were told we had 90 days to decide, risk free, and two days later when we went back to exchange it for something else, were told that there would be a charge. So much for free.

Don't think Expensive means better. I got my mattress for a reasonable price and probably as good or better then what you get from the big names. The reason is that I went to a local Mattress factory place, they make the mattress and sell them so they don't have the charges for warehousing them. Get a better deal then if you went to some other places and you get a good quality mattress. Sure you don't get the "name" but who needs that? Go to a store that sells them and try them to see what you like. Personally I can't see much difference in most. Maybe it's just me but I didn't see the big deal in most of them. It was like what am I doing. I mean I'm laying on them but so what, I didn't see what was supposed to be gotten from it. If you want a certain quality though that is the way to go. Try them out. Me I just needed a new mattress, was moving and wanted a new one.

DO NOT get Serta - the place I bought my mattress from doesn't even carry Serta anymore because they said they got too many complains and Serta was not honoring warranty's -- I got a Spring Air - pillow top -- we have had it 3 months and LOVE it~ it WAS $1,400 -- we couldn't spend anymore (college) but it was the best we got for the money~ I went to the store and they delivered it the next day - and took the old one away for free-- we went right when they were closing and the guy really wanted to sell something -- the price tag was 1,600 but we got it for 1,400 -- we didn't have to finance and that saves them money too - so he gave us the difference off - plus no tax...yay! Good luck! We looked for months - but we are very Happy!

Just bought a memory-foam mattress and I LOVE it. I will never sleep on anything else again. Wal-Mart had the best prices and it's a brand-X, so to speak, but it is great nevertheless. No pressure points anywhere, no springs...I could do a commercial. I am an insomniac but now I can sleep much longer than I used to.

OH-- don't get a Serta, those damn sheep will whine outside your bedroom window at night and you'll never get any sleep!!!!! LOL. I'd go with a Simmons Beauty Rest. They are supposed to give the best spine support without being too firm...

Try a tempurpedic mattress. I slept on one and that was the best sleep I ever got in years. I slept so long I missed dinner!
