some houses have never had the air ducts cleaned. Dust collects in them, like on your furniture, but very little dust collects per year. So yearly at the most. Change the filter more often and reduce that to two years. Change it regularly and make that five to ten years.

Depends on a lot of things.....do you have hard duct work (made out of sheet metal), or do you have flex duct work? How old is the duct work? What kind of air filters have you been using & how often have you been changing them? Usually, if the ductwork is older than 12 years old, most A/C companies reccomend changing the duct work out, regardless of what type it is due to the efficiency of the duct work......the flex duct work is cheaper than the hard duct work to replace.

It all depends on the amount of carpet you have and how many pets you have. I have a friend that used to clean air ducts and he said if you have alot pets and carpet and smoke you should have them cleaned at least once a yr. (But thats coming from someone that used to do it for a livving) me i would say about once ever 2 yrs

I guess the common sense (useless) answer here is "as often as needed"... but I'm sure thats not what you want to hear...

It really depends.. if you change your filters regularly and live out in the country and don't have a lot of traffic (people, pets, etc) coming in and out, you could probably get away with every 5 -10 years..

but house traffic, age of house, furnace filters, local conditions, proximity to the road, etc all have an effect...
