It has started to get into the 30's here in Georgia. I can't really spend more than $50 on each of them for a coat. The 12 year old is kind of preppy, I guess. She likes to wear her *fake* Birkenstocks, cute jeans with sequins, t-shirts and *hoodie* sweatshirts. The 14 year old likes to wear black a lot, jeans, Converse tennis shoes...likes to be *different*. She likes to wear *hoodie* sweatshirts, too, but they usually have skulls or something like that on them. *yikes* Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am so afraid that I will buy them something that they will think is *dorky*. So, what kind of coats do you think these girls might like, based on their ages and the way they dress? (Serious answers only, please.)

Let them sit down with you, on line, going through their favorite stores. See what they like, and what they are drawn to. Then go to discount stores (TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Target, Ross, etc...) to find similar styles to what they picked out.

Old Navy would be a good choice for the preppy girl, since they are Gap's cheaper line. I have no clue about your other girl (sorry) since all the stores I know of that cater to that style are more expensive. But you may be able to find some sales on outerwear at Pac Sun or Urban Outfitters since it's getting close to Christmas when most stores have good sales going on.

You could take the preppy girl to Charlotte Russe or Urban Outfitters at the mall. Most of their coats are between $25-$40

Take the punky girl to a thrift store like Goodwill. She can find something no one else has, and that would be different. They would only cost between $5-$15.

Do not take her to Hot Topic, because their coats are not designed for warmth or durability. They wouldn't protect her from the weather.

Go to the most expensive store in ur place and find out the prices and decide what is in fashion and then go to the store where similar products are available cheap.

i bought my cousin a quilted looking trench coat and she loved it. it was like a mini adult coat and she felt grown up whereever she went. but to get some ideas go into a store like limited too in the mall. then you can go on ebay or to a cheaper store to buy something similar.

For the fourteen year old i would suggest a black jacket like this http://shop.pacsun.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=40531&parentCategoryId=10002&categoryId=21960&pageNumber=1&sortBy=0# since we dress the same and i love this jacket.
