I would say no simply because the Iwo Jima landings were not contested on the beach as those in Normandy were. The Japanese let the Americans get ashore before they attacked. The Japanese also knew that there was no place for them to retreat to, and certainly no hope of reinforcement. And so, tey maid the Americans pay dearly for the island. Iwo Jima ranks as probably the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history.

Another major difference is the Japanese knew the Americans were coming and exactly where. The Germans still believed that the invasion would be further north, where the English channel is narrower. When the landings occured, they were moving troops away from the landing sites further north.

In fact, apart from the fact that there amphibious landings in both I can thing of no other similarity.
