This is a hefty question. So, first we have to decide what is happiness and what is righteousness. In sources I have linked some definitions. For clarification I will argue from Happy 2 and Righteous 3. Also, I will be arguing from a non-Christian worldview. Now, let's define even more. There is an argument that suggests that the road to happiness is the path to righteousness. Your question suggests that you believe that the two are not the same. Does this mean that the righteous path will not make you happy. That living in a virtuous or moral way does not allow you to be happy? And conversely, does it mean that we can only be happy if we act immorally? Hedonism is the philosophical school of thought that says it is moral to maximize one's happines (simplified). This argument suggests they are the same path, therefore we have no question. Otherwise, we have righteous action. What this entails varies with culture and religion, though there seem to be some common themes. Mulling this over, it seems that I get to the same conclusion. Does leading a righteous life mean I cannot lead a happy life? There are those who's decisions are amoral, that is they do not consider right or wrong. Their actions are based solely on what makes them happy. In that sense, the Path of Righteousness would seem more difficult because it would seem to go against the instincts or impulses of the individual. It would not maximize their happiness. But does this mean they are happy? Could it be that they are simply ignorant of 'Right Action'? That being the case, can one said to be happy if they do not understand the morality of their actions? Does my cat act in an immoral manner when she claws my couch? Does it mean she isn't happy because she doesn't understand that destroying my couch for no good reason is immoral? I don't think that is the case. It is a tough question, but I've thought about it for quite a while. So, I guess, finally, my answer is this: The Road to Happiness is the Path of Righteousness. What that means exactly is especially up for argument. I act in a righteous manner, and it may make me unhappy in the short term. But in the long term I am satisfied with my actions. And therefore happy. On occasions when my actions are immoral, I may be happy in the short term, but when given time to consider my actions, I find myself disappointed and unhappy about my actions. Therefore: in an examined life, The Road to Happiness is on the Path of Righteousness.

Unfortunately there is no map, otherwise everybody would be happy! But bear in mind that a condition of constant happiness will affect the meaning of happiness! Happiness shouldn't be taken for granted!
