This means, it can directly connect to an internet service and has the neccessary hardware to connect somehow.

However, depending on the marketing guy, "Internet Ready" can mean, that the Laptop has only a modem to connect to an installed AOL, or it can mean, the laptop has not only a modem, but also a network connection and WLAN for broadband internet.

As for tanking it on the road: As long as you have a WLAN hotspot in your vicinity you can connect to the internet wirelessly on the go (as long as you stay in range of the hotspot, which is usually about 50 metres).

If your school provides WLAN or network access, then you also can connect your laptop there.

O.k. your laptop probably has a card built in for home wireless use. I have a home computer and a laptop so I have router that enables me to use both computers and I dont have to have any wires! I dont have a card just the one built in it. The problem is you have to buy a card from walmart if you want to go anywhere else and use your computer. Only places that actually have wilreless internet you can use your laptop. Just certain places like coffee shops, hotels, and some Mcdonalds have wireless internet. There is also another type of wireless internet is through cingular wireless. You can use this service anywhere just like your cell phone. the basic service is very expensive like 70.00 a month and it is REALLY slow like dial up. In bigger cities cingular offers another type of wireless that is faster like dsl but only in certain areas. You can always call them or check out there website if you are interested. Well thats about sums it up without all those hytek words that you cant understand. At least I dont, lol. Good Luck!!!

It most likely (if not definitely) means you are good to go as soon as your laptop detects and configures your connection (provided that you are on a connection where auto configure/connect is possible...I have cable and my husband purchased a new laptop for me about a month ago...it is an HP and has Turion64 mobile technology...it was as simple as flipping the wireless internet button at the front of the laptop...absolutely trouble free and works beautifully.

The router we use allows me to take the laptop anywhere within the house or outside for a distance of 5000 ft (it's a very high end router)...although I've not had it further than the upstairs yet as the weather hasn't been all that great to see how far away from the house I can actually roam.

You shouldn't have any problem as long as you are connected to your dsl provider, the laptop should do all the configuring for you.

If you have Turion64, Centrino etc you are set for wireless no card required.

Good luck

It means that the it have a builtin wireless adapter. You do not need to buy another wireless card, but you must have a wireless routher set up in your house to use it. You will also be able to use the computer in what is now being called wireless hot spots, or any wireless router that is not secured.

That means it has at least a Modem and a Network 'cards' installed. It also has the software and drivers for those those card pre-installed as well.

It may or may not include a wifi connection, you will have to look specifically for the words 'wireless' or 'wifi' on the box.

It should have a wireless card in it already. All you need then is to get it to talk to your home wireless LAN , if you have one.

Out and about, you have to rely on people not securing their home wireless networks or finding a free wifi hotspot.
