THE KEY WORD IN THIS QUESTION IS "AMERICAN"

The problem is that they can't think of anything new and having no culture of their own can only screw up everyone else's. Have you noticed all alien life forms have Arabic names...? Goltar etc.

Due to this lack of creativity, once they've made a load of sequels, they start making prequels!!!

Even when they make an original film, e.g. the one when the Americans get the Enigma machine out of the U Boat, it's lies, (as the British got the machine). How about we Brits make a film about America, as if we won the war of Independence? (Sounds like a horror film).

Yep, agree with you too. But Britain did it too with Never Say Never Again - a poor remake of Thunderball!
Others you forgot -
The Thomas Crown Affair (which lost the chess scene)
The Lady Vanishes (the one with Cybil Shepherd in it)
Don't forget sequels like American Pie 3 and Police Academy 4...

Money, the pinacle of american life the ore that can be traded for litterall anything in this world, those movies were probably really successful and good originally, so they remade them and put them in theatres, knowing everyone would want to see them( everyone being all the main movie going audiences) thats why no other reason really

America won't let us have anything. Though I have to say British films in general suck pretty much, though the best ones are Americanised. Either produced, directed or funded by America, like the Bond movies or A clock work orange.

its either because writers and producers are running out of original ideas and instead of coming up with their own, are relying on tv spin offs, remakes etc for the money rather than for anything else. or they cannot be bothered to think of new ideas and storylines that have never been covered before in films

Because classics are just that, Classic! They shouldn't be touched. They should be left alone and kept out of the hands of so called "movie stars".

I totally agree - if it's made good the first time why ruin it by making another. Plenty of scripts out there to ruin!

Because being American, they CAN. (That's why everyone hates us!)

The oldies were American tv shows/films too, and some of them weren't so good to begin with.

Do what I do...keep watching the old ones if you like them better.

Short on ideas, I guess. It's boring.

Even the new Bond film is a 'remake' of the unofficial 'Casino Royale' from ages ago. Though it is really good! :)

because the current set of writers may have talent, but the producers and directors don't trust them, so decide to rewrite old hits.
