The name of the movie is "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken". It is the true story of Sonora Webster, a young girl during the depression who takes up with a carnival to find work. She goes blind during one of the dives, not the horse. But she learns and continues to dive even after her injury. It's a great film made in 1991 and stars Gabrielle Anwar and Cliff Robertson.

Just discovered this Q & A thing today ... pretty neat ... anyway ... I remember that movie ... It's called "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" ... I borrowed it from a friend (on VHS) and unfortunately left it in an old VCR that I threw out! I still have the movie case though and I can just see it in my mind's eye! But do you think I could remember the title when I read your question? No way! I knew it was something like "wild, free, can't be tamed" etc. and I remembered it was definitely a Disney movie. So I googled 'Disney movie blind horse' and the answer was there! (So was your question!) I still feel bad that I threw it out. My friend said it was her favourite movie growing up and I always thought I should replace it. I followed a link from the google search (to Amazon.com) and low and behold there's the cover of that movie case! (And a place for me to buy a copy - maybe as a Christmas present - to ease my guilt!) So ... enjoy your movie memories! This was fun ... thanks!

You're a little mixed up. The girl loses her sight, not the horse. The name of the movie is Wild Hearts Can't be Broken. It was with Gabriele Anwar and was based on the true story of Sonora Webster

OK, try this site. It's about a movie called called "Breaking Free"... just a guess... The girl, Lindsay, is also blind; she'd been a gymnast but obviously couldn't do that anymore. The time frame fits (movie from 1995).

Annie Garrett (Julie Benz, "Angel"), her 7-year-old daughter Taylor (Gage Golightly, "A Carol Christmas") and their horse Tolo find themselves stranded and penniless in a strange town after Annie’s hot-headed husband Ross (John Livingston, "Ed TV") takes off without a trace. A gifted equestrian and horse whisperer, Annie earns much-needed money at the local equestrian center where she meets Mary Lou O’Brian (four-time Academy Award® nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner Marsha Mason, "The Goodbye Girl"), a legendary dressage champion.
Annie’s luck seems to change at Shamrock Farms where, under the guidance of Mary Lou and barn manager Guido Levits (two-time Golden Globe winner Paul Le Mat, "Melvin and Howard"), she decides to re-enter the world of competition. When a tragic accident leaves Tolo totally blind, Annie finally finds the courage to overcome the past, stand on her own, and prove that the bond of love is stronger than any adversity.
While some of the story is fictional, the part of the film that is decidedly factual is the relationship between Annie and Tolo, said Amy A. Gaston, the real-life inspiration for the screenplay. "The whole relationship between Tolo and the character Annie--that is completely me and him. He did go completely blind. His favorite things were cookies and I used those to help comfort him right after he went blind, to coax him out of the stall and get him to walk," she said.
IS IT THIS ONE?
