The number of corporations in the US changes daily. For the best information, check out the US Department of Commerce at the link below. It collects such information and should have it on its Web site.

I did a brief search and learned that 5,401,237 corporations in the United States filed tax returns in 2003. That was the latest year for which I could find statistics.
