For the last 4-5 years, I have stayed alone, but now I no longer have the ability to do so. I am leaving in 7 days to get married & hence will no longer be living alone till I die. Over the recent years, I have developed a real fear of staying alone & to overcome my fear, I have started drinking excessively & doing stupid things once I am drunk. My life of living alone is luckily coming to an end, but can living alone be a real phobia?

Solitude is nothing to fear.

Having the tautology of the crowd, like a sheep however, is worrying..

I believe it depends on the situation. If you have no one in your life even your parents or siblings then It could really be difficult to you.Same if youre getting older. But if you still young and have loved ones in your life then it will be still great of living a life as a single. But in your case I can feel that you really need someone to be with in your life.Thats fine all of us needs that someone, and the saying 'no man is an island' is true, we created to be with someone else thats why life is sometimes too miserable to us when we have no one to rely on, to count on and to just be with...And do you hear people saying that they want to be married someday because they dont want to be alone when they are old?Its only shows that being alone could be a real phobia to each of us sooner or later.Youre very blessed that you have found now the one who's meant for you. So this is the time for you to cheer up and do your best to make it last forever.Thats all!

Yes it can!But everything is in our mind! By starting drinking you don't solve it! You just making it worse! It only can calm your fear for a few hours. When you give so many attention on a thing like this you make it huge! You should sit by yourself and try to find answers in your mind about what made you fear living alone and what is exactly that you fear! When you understand these things you should simplify them! It's not so terrible living alone!

100% being alone is a real phobia! Eventhough you are getting married, you should still seek councelling to try and get rid of the phobia. There may still be times on life where you might have to stay alone.

I think depression is a result of being lonely and living by yourself for so long.....drinking just helps pass the time and temporary make you feel better....

I lived alone for a couple of years and I found it quite depressing...Now I live with 4 people, 2 cats and a dog and sometimes wish I was back in my own pad.....

Still a hectic home is better than a lonely one...

People can become frantic about being left alone. Loneliness is horrible. Apparently agrophobia is the fear of being alone. See the link below.

I am living alone for the past year now... and I don't seem to get a phobia... it's just the feeling of loneliness and the feeling of missing someone or just to grab companionship... it's like being homesick... where you misses your family or someone dear to you...
