I met a boy online when I was 14 and we kept in touch until I was 18. Well what do you know, he's my fiance, and we've been living together for 3 years now. (He came to NYC for college, and we clicked!)
I would check the online dating sites, since they can be fun, and you're really exposed to a lot of different types of people.
And, dont go anywhere looking for guys if its not some place you wouldn't want them to go. IE - If you dont drink or like to party, don't go looking for someone to hang around on the couch with at a bar. The odds are likely (as likely as you being there), and it will be difficult to talk to others when they have friends around (probably the ones who dragged them there!)
Try eharmony, match.com, yahoo personals, and there really are tons more. Most of them let you "observe" before you buy...You can find people you want to get to know before paying.
I would try eHarmony, since whats more important than having religion and values in common?
Also, you can try church groups, or join a club (like a hiking club, since youre into that!) and you're likely to meet others.
There are also cycling clubs, book clubs (where they meet once and awhile, etc.) and things along those lines..
At a last resort, you can try adult singles nights and stuff, but...honestly, I'd steer clear. It's likely to be a lot of weirdos. :)
Oh! And try a Starbucks, or Coffee house. You can bring a book, and see if you find anyone nice to chat with..just be careful - always check for the ring. :) Goodluck, and don't worry - there is someone for everyone! Don't waste your time on people who aren't "the one"
--- one more thing - i dont suggest the asking friends thing. You are likely to see these people again, and might feel forced to "make it work" even if they are STRANGE. DONT do it, explicitly atleast... (especially if its a friends cousin!!! haha)

Have you made up your mind really?
40 is not the age where everything is over. But you cannot expect a life of the last 40 years after marriage. Lot of give and takes will be required. If you are ready for it,
approach some Matrimonial agencies. Internet is also good.
Best wishes.

Don't worry, you still have your chance.
Am 24 years and am in love relation with a girl who is 38 years. We love each other and we will get married soon.
You still have the chance, nothing is impossible.
To look young, you have to always wear nice clothes, and look elegant, and take care for your look.
Don't go forward for any man that may propose to you, thinking that chances are going. You have to find the man that deserves you and appreciate you, and will stay beside you forever.
Wish you all the luck.
