What you are seeing in System Properties is a license or installation number, or the like. It is not the Microsoft PRODUCT KEY number that you input during installation of the software.

To see the Product Key number try the following.

Go to: http://www.belarc.com

Download and run their utility called the "Advisor". This utility will tell you many things about your hardware and software that you may have not ever known. A good thing is to print the report and keep it handy.

Let it install and run. Once it's complete you can look in the section titled "Software Licenses" and see the Microsoft Product Key number to the right of Microsoft XP.

Also look in the "Missing Microsoft Security Hotfixes" and the "Installed Microsoft Hotfixes" sections and make sure you have all the updates available from MS.

Hope this helps!

Well:

1. typing all capital letters is weirdo. Sorta GAY, and an insult, in web ettiquette. But, I forgive... this time.

2. Big problem, first time your system goes and runs WGA, you will be shut down with the warning of a thirty day chance to get legit!

a. Unless, the tech ran his OEM disk and paid for the license number, which means that you could have two (2) legit license numbers, now.

b. I doubt it, really.

c. There are lots of lazy techs. out there. If you paid them for the work, make them do it correctly!

d. There is a small utility they have that lets them enter any License number so that your system will be legal, whenever Microsoft looks into your computer files.

e. Yes, Microsoft, the multiple convicted Pirate and Felon, on several continents, looks at your private files and has total access to everything, and even downloads stuff to your system, and uploads your private info to their servers!

f. The DOJ just extended the probation of Felon Microsoft, for THREE (3) MORE YEARS! And you let them into your private files?

3. Many of us quit all that hassle of no privacy, having to register, phone them to re-register, and the problems of "114,000 Felon Microsoft Virus Definitions" and the fact that 91% of all mail is SPAM, that is actually encouraged through the weak code of the Microsoft Corporation.

We, the citizens of 165 nations, run http://pclinuxos.com

4. Microsoft runs 45,000 servers, Corporate Computers, all routers, and firewalls, the Redmond Campus Labs 400 systems, on Linux! Join us!

Don't be surprised when the WGA finds, and tells you, that you are NOT legal! Yes, this is actually a big problem for the tech. who did the deed! Tell them, to FIX IT as a warranty of their work! If you report them to Microsoft, it could cost them a minimum fine of $150,000!!! Per instance!!!

Jaden, the product key proves that you personal a valid, paid-for replica of MS note. in case you do not, or can not discover the evidence, I 2d the advice of OpenOffice as a perfect and legal option.
