Would anyone have any ideas of some things to do that you can afford on a pension?

Check with your local library and see if they offer any free or reduced admission passes to local attractions. My local library has many of them that are available for loan for a few days at a time and have saved us a lot of money.

Painting, Drawing, Arts, Crafts, Back Yard Astronomy, buy an all day rail ticket and travel around the city.

Your local parks and rec department should have tons of classes and events planned check with them.
