Use a scraper. No matter what temperature water you use, it is still water, and if its still cold outside, it will eventually re-freeze.

Water just adds to the problem if the outside temperature is very cold. The easy way is to start the car and turn defroster on high. After a few minutes the Ice will be much easier to scrap off.

depending on the thickness of the ice you can use both, if its light ice i recommend Warm water, dont use cold water as it doesent remove much ice at all
If you've got a LOT of ice use boiling water, the ice will rapidly raise in temperature causing it to basicly lift itself off the glass, with a little help from a scraper the ice should come off in small sheets, make sure you have your windshield wipers going after you use water tho cause the water you've put on WILL re-freeze if not promptly removed.

november 2005 ice storm in eastern south dakota decided to drop somewhere around an inch and a half of ice on my truck, ALL OVER!!! i used the coffee pot water (insanely hot) on my locks, door glass, and windshield

time taken to manualy scrape all the ice off without water... aproximately 30-45 minutes... come on now i aint gonna stand out there that long just to get INTO my truck,

time taken to completely thaw all windows and locks with hot water.... 5 - 10 minutes, always keep a dry towel with you in your vehicle as it will come in handy when using water to thaw ice.

hope this helps!!!

Use windshield wiper solution and a scraper. Water hot or cold will just make a mess.
