Yes, we should treat them in the same manner as any other country and no longer submit to their iron will.
To anyone who has any reservations about keeping the USA at a distance well maybe you can explain why they had their nuclear missiles aimed at Britain in the recent past and for all we know that may still be the case. Some friend and ally!

A laughing sock? Coooooool...

In all seriousness, though, it's about time people became a lot more politcally aware full-stop. I, for one, am not a fan or Bush or Blair, but see our alliance with the US as a positive thing. However, no matter what your point of view may be, you have a duty to get involved in the politics of your country and stand up for what you think is right.

The British public are too complaisant, even the students are not protesting guess they are not as passionate now as they were in the 60s Brown Blair and Bush the three Bs don't give a monkeys what the public think they will do what they want because they can.
I bet if it suited Bush he'd attack Britain.
They rule because YOU voted for them and silence is consent, you can write, visit your local M.P and protest, you can write to the P.M, you can write to the Queen and protest, so YOU who say nothing are keeping them there therefor you must enjoy being humiliated.

A laughing stock and a shamefully smelly sock indeed. Sadly Gordon Brown seems weak and the cabinet itself needs voting right out. The people do ask for answers but the Labour party or its little coterie have sold us out and they spin and spin There needs to be tactical thought in voting. neither the 2 main parties? - Mr Brown needs to get his act together fast. It's a dilemma
dizzy

I think you are spot-on. Brown's succession would be a perfect chance for us to distance ourselves from the woeful myopia of American foreign policy. I could never work out why such a bright guy like Blair bought that whole wacky George Bush / neo-con worldview. Although why you say we are a laughing sock is beyond me - MY footwear is impeccable.

You get the choice every four or so years. You can vote for the Labour or Conservative parties who would like us to become the 51st State. You can vote Liberal Democrat who would like us to be closer to Europe. You can vote BNP who will put your auntie in a concentration camp. You can vote UK Independence and form an Alliance with the little green men from Mars.

For as long as people vote for the pro-US parties, that's what we get. If you don't vote, don't whinge.

Being friends is better than being distant, friendship doesn't require blind following. The US-UK friendhsip is probably the most powerful alliance on the planet, and potentially the best motivation for world peace. Please realize GW Bush is a limited power for a limited time, and our friendship should endure beyond the current situation. We need your wisdom and support to find the right course of action, and less friendship won't help either side.

US - UK relations are based upon blood and not political expediency. Millions of Americans are related to the British and Irish by blood - related as in relatives.

Blood is thicker than water. Always remember that.

One bad president does not make a bad American people.

I guess everyone needs friends, even countries. I guess you can choose between the US and France and Germany. I saw how good a friends they have been to you. Make your bed and then you have to lie in it. If Britain was attacked who do you think would be the ones to help you? France?
