depends on how many games you are storing. bigger is usually better

The size of the harddisk allows you to install more games.
If you're looking for speed, then the harddisk is not of relevance. This means, if a game is not running well on your current PC, it will still not run well with a bigger harddisk.

You can easily find out if the harddisk is too small.
Windows XP will use about 1 GB of disk space.
More and more games are being shipped on DVDs or several CD's. A typical modern game is about 2-6 GB large.
You should keep about 1 GB free for Windows to store temporary stuff.

This leaves 38 GB free for your games and savegames, your data like Word Documents or emails and other applications.

This means, if you only use the PC for gaming, you can store about 10-15 Games on the 40 GB Harddisc.
However, if you finished a game, you can uninstall it and it well free up space.

The bigger HD will allow you to store more games, but the 40 GB HD will do fine. HD have different speeds or RPM that they spin/read. The higher the RPM is the faster the data can be processed. The processor and memory will play a major factor in the performance of the game you are playing.

I will suggest you the best way....As u seem to be a gamer alway do one thing play one game at time like, install one game end that then delete that and load new one .... and i will suggest you that u get atleast 80 GB hard disk as sometime there will need of extra space and when u will not have that u can play and always remember to have atleast 512MB RAM to play games at best speed...
The bigger the space lesser the problem....

The size of the hard drive determines how many games you can have on your computer. The larger the drive, the more games you can install. With a smaller drive, once it becomes full, you would have to delete older games to make room for new ones.

The larger the hard drive the better. Regardless of size, within six months you will be out of room on it. (LOL) It is usually cheaper to get the biggest one you can now than to go back six months from now to replace it.

Bigger is ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS better. Even if you don't think you're gonna need it, chances are that later on down the line you're gonna want expansions to a certain game or a new game all together.

And don't ya think that just installing the new game with going through the hassle of dumping the old one is a great idea?

I'm currently having a 200 GB hard disk.. And so far, i've used 40 GB only for gaming.. Nowdays, games can reach to a max of 5 GB.. So, you might consider having a new hard disk

the anwser to your question at hand is yes a 40 gig big enough but a 80 gig would be better but as long as you dont down load 100s of games the 40 gig will serve its purpose for you just fine ok

40 is enough for putting in games. No need to go 80 if you are on a budget.

Having a bigger hard drive won't make anything run any faster - it just means you'll be able to store more data. If anything, this could slow it down (if you don't defragment and clean up the drive regularly, they become "cluttered").

Go with the biggest drive your budget will allow. 40 gig will fill up fast. Shoot for something around 160 or better.
