Everytime I click to open a file, it doesn't display fully on my desktop display so I have to maximize it. It is quite annoying to me.

Depends on the application.
Some may have a Setting in their Options dialog.
But that is unlikely.
I recall that some programs had tricks like holding down the Ctrl key when closing, and it remembers that it was maximized.

The best bit of advice I can give is an easy way to maximize any window -
Just double click the title bar (blue band along the top), and it maximizes.

With the mouse, left button click on the coloured bar at the top of the window and move the window towards the top left-hand corner and release. Take the cursor to the bottom right-hand corner of the window and click on the small corner lines and drag the corner down to the bottom right-hand corner of the monitor screen (or as far as it will go) and release. Click on File, and then click on Close to close the window. Don't close the window by clicking on the X (top right-hand corner). Next time the window is opened it will appear maximised. Personally, I think it's still a lot of messing. As someone has said, double click on the coloured bar at the top of the window to open it up.

It depends on which graphical environment you are using. I don't know of a way in Microsoft Windows, but in KDE (Linux) you simply set the window how you would like it, then go to "Settings" and "Save as Default".

You can also go to "Configure Window Behaviour" off the right-click menu. Select the "Moving" tab, and set "Placement" to "Maximising".

I believe it is similar is Mac OS X, but the settings are saved when you close the window - it then opens up back in the same way.
