Chlorine

1) Is green-yellow in colour.

2) Has a pungent choking smell.

3) Will turn moist litmus or universal indicator paper red,
and then bleach it white.

4) Will put out a lit splint.


Specific test.

Chlorine is the only gas which has a bleaching effect.

you can go to your local pool shop and get a test kit for chlorine..

or you can go to your local environmental lab.. and pay them do a chlroine residue test.. it should be about 12.00 something i would think

Well, if you have access to a standard Chemistry lab...
Add lead(II) nitrate to your sample. A white precipitate would form if chloride ions are present
