1. Choose something you will remember - but that no one could guess or find (dont use your D.O.B. or Name for instance)
2. Never write it down - or at least in any identifiable way (eg. if you choose a series of numbers, write them down in reverse order - only you will know this)
3. a good tip for choosing passwords on phones etc. that have letters on the keys, is to use a word or phrase or name, cos its easier to remember a word than 6 or 8 random numbers.

3. Use a pass phrase rather than a password
- A passphrase can be long, and yet easy to remember

Dangerous - only words
Medium - Words + numbers
Safe - Words + numbers + capital letters
Have those 3 and your password will be hard to crack

if you have the luxury of setting your own hint make it able to "jog" your memory but misguide others to false conclutions is a good thing to do as well.
