I had a vasectomy before we were married and now i am impotent. My wife has told me she has been getting what I cannot provide from African-American men. She plans to get pregnant by one of them. I am ok with this, but how should i tell our families? Should i be concerned with what my co-workers, friends, etc will say? My wife and I plan to raise the child and only have the biological man be a sperm donor.

I am sure that more than likely everyone you know will consider this to be a scandal. Another thing you need to consider is the biological father may not see it the same way you and your wife see it, he may decide that he not only wants to be the donor, he may very well decide that he wants to exercise his right to be the Daddy also. I would suggest that if you guys want a child, go and be artifically inseminated by a donor that gave consent for you to raise a child that might result by using his sperm.
What you guys are planning is just plaiin wrong. What is your wife going to do in the event that the donor she sleeps with has HIV or aids and it is passed on to the baby? It appears to me that you guys are being very selfish and need to sit down and think about this before you make a mistake that cannot be corrected. Of course, it is your decision; this is just my opinion.

geez, some of you need to give the poor guy a break! this is his life...he wasn't asking what anyone thinks morally of this! If he is honestly ok with these circumstances, then that is his right. Of course, if he's only going along with it so his wife can have a baby, then there are other ways of going about it. (personally, i wouldn't be happy about it, but hey, everyone is different!)

I do think you should tell your family and friends when/if she becomes pregnant this way that you decided to do it via this option.
I have to ask though...are you really happy about her sleeping with other men? I know that having a vasectomy and impotence has probably put a strain on your relationship (as it would in most)...it sounds like this is something she just sprung on you, though. "My wife has told me she HAS BEEN GETTING what I cannot provide" says to me that she was doing this without your knowledge. Is there no chance of having IVF with your own sperm? Surely they could fish some of yours out...?

I just hope that if you pair do go through with this that you don't grow to resent her and/or the potential baby...this is something much bigger than JUST deciding to have a baby and needs to be planned carefully.

Good luck with your decision.

Thankful? That's an odd choice of words. I wouldn't expect African-Americans to be thankful, but I don't think they should be especially bitter either. They weren't the first nor the last in the world to be enslaved. I'm not saying it was right, but in the history of the world, it wasn't exactly uncommon. Indians (not native Americans) were actually brought to Africa as slaves. Never quite figured that one out. And Columbus brought native Cubans back to Spain. Nowadays, human trafficing from Asia and Central America is the norm. Don't get me wrong, I think slavery is a terrible stain on our history, but I know for a fact there are many in Africa who feel African-Americans are the lucky ones. I don't think they should be thankful, why should they be, I certainly wouldn't be. But it could have been worse and it was native Africans that enslaved and sold them in the first place. How much better would staying in Africa have been

vasectomies can be reversed. ur wife don't need to actually have sex in order to get pregnant. she can get ivf treatments from a donor, and u can request that the donor is someone who looks similiar to u. adoption may be a good idea too.

if this is really what u want than u shouldn't be concerned of what others think.

in truth, i think the reason u r concerned of what they think is because u know this isn't right.

So wait, you're "letting" your wife cheat on you or is she really going to a sperm bank...If she is going to a sperm bank she can get it from a white guy and not have to tell anyone...maybe she should consider the ramifications for her actions...won't this CHILD have a hard time...and how can she, a white mother understand what the 1/2 black child is going through...sounds to me like shes a bit selfish!

I don't really understand.
She's cheating on you.
you can still have intercourse with her
if you both want a baby together you should definately not know the man who's sperm you will use especially if he is not aware he is being used
You really need to think about this.

I think this may be a strong indication of major problems in your relationship. I know that, if for some reason my husband and I couldn't have a baby, we would look at adoption together. Have you two talked about this possibility?

Not all people will understand. What will your wife's sex desire be after she has the baby? Is she going to have you sit home rase the baby while shes out looking for the next father?

Yes, I would tell your families.

Be proud, dont let them talk you out of it.

Support your wife thru this, when she comes home you should go down and provide her with oral sex.
