Yes, it's the first reaction anyone would have...I think it's amazing it is still used.

lol

No offense, but ....This is the point where I cut them off by saying "OFFENSE!OFFENSE!"

then I point out their silly error..first of all, who you trying to kid? If you have to start what you want to say with "No offense," you know you probably shouldn't even be saying it in the first place.

And even if you don't mean to offend, 'No offense, but' means the same as "I don't want to offend you, but I'm going to" and
"Don't be offended at the insult I'm about to give you"

I don't really take offense :-)after cutting someone off in midsentence and carrying on about word usage, they have forgotten it so I never really get to hear whatever BS they were gonna say LOL

I think when someone says that it means that he/she cares about not effending someone, but might need to clear the blur of something..or need to know something....if you know what I mean..
if the person doesn't care about ppl's feelings that person wouldn't say "no offense"

Only if I know for certain that the No Offense, BUT is not sincere and only a way for a person to offend you and not appear like a jerk to others.

As soon as a statement is followed by a BUT, you know something is up.

Sort of like I hate to tell you this BUT...... OKAY stop right there if you hate to tell me then DON'T. If it is only going to spread gossip, please don't tell me.

That phrase automatically puts people on the defensive and makes you think that there is something wrong with you. It's as bad as telling someone something "for their own good". I think people need to look within first to see if THEY need to change, too! Plus, some info is best kept to yourself!

Sometimes what they say can be offensive..if you take it personally.

No, why would I when someone is nice enough to point out something that others wouldn't for whatever reason. Now if the person is just being smarmy that is on them.

I try not too, but when that phrase is said, it usually means that something mean is about to be said. I guess it's kind of a way to brace someone for something they might not like.

I take offense because they usually say something really nasty after that.

They should just say what they want to say, without trying to control my reaction, or pretending like they're actually being nice or something.
And keep their opinions to themselves

I listen to what they have to say, if they're right, I'll admit it. If not, I tell them "I've had worse things said about me by better people". If they're going to put down someone in my family, or a friend, I walk away.
