Well I love country music (Hank, J.R.Cash, Waylon, Merle), but I hate current pop/country (Garth, Shania, etc.)
And...I live in China...yes, I know...perhaps a little unexpected to get an answer from the Orient. But, I'm from country Canada. I teach English and Foreign culture in Beijing and today I actually taught my class about foreign music...I taught them five famous foreign singers/bands (while playing guitar for all 40 of them).
1. Elvis. 2. Beatles. 3. Michael Jackson 4. Bob Dylan 5. Cash.
....Johnny proposed to June while onstage of my hometown (albeit, well before my time).
In China, the most famous song is definitely, "Country Roads" - J. Denver. But, personal faves I'll go with Hank,"I'm So Lonesome", or Cash, "Boy Named Sue, Sunday Morning Comin' Down (Penned by K. Kristoferson), Waylon, 'Duke's Theme'".
Gram Parsons, The Band, and Bob Dylan were also integral for the merging of 'Country-Rock' in the 60s.
Willie has always been an amazing songwriter..."Crazy, Blue Eyes Cryin'

Hank Williams - "Cold, Cold Heart", or "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". They are both truly great songs.
Also very good are :
Merle Haggard - "Swinging Doors"
Johnny Cash - "I Walk the Line"
George Jones - "He Stopped Loving Her Today"
Steve Earle- "My Old Friend The Blues"
Also, nothing ever done by Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, or any twelve year old in a ten gallon hat is worth even listening to. That ain't country, its just pop.

There's just so many. Ilove George Jones the best tho, so I gotta go with "He Stopped Lovin Her Today, or The Grand Tour, or The Dance from Garth. I could list hundreds, especially from the 70's and 80's.

Of course, it's a matter of personal taste, but I have to agree with another answerer that it should be a Hank Williams one, if only for his tremendous influence on every country singer since. He's a superb songwriter. But which song?
Take your pick, but I like "Your Cheatin' Heart".
By the way, don't be confused by the "junior"s and Hank Williams III etc. Go straight to the real deal.

When you say Country, I think the Johnny Cash classic, "I Walk the Line" but there are many, many Country songs that I like better.

There's a tear in my beer: Hank Williams, classic country, classic Hank, an old cowboy crying into his beer over an old lost love. He's trying to drink to kill the memory but the more he drinks the more he can't stop thinking about the lover who will never be.
