When we partition the disk the drive letter starts from C through Z as letter A is allocated for floppy disk. But drive letter B is not available to allocate. Why?

Once there were no Hard disks, Operating systems were loaded from the floppy. You cannot work with computers before loading the DOS or some other OS from floppy drive. After loading the OS, you can remove the floppy and then use some other floppy to save your files.

At that time computers came with two floppy drives, so that one floppy drive can be always used for loading the OS and the other could be used for saving your files and they are name A and B drive. When Hard disks came, they are named from C.

Till now the same stratergy is being followed though we normally use only one floppy drives now-a-days.

B: is for floppy, computers didn't start with hard disks. An ancient would have two floppy drives, the old DOS used A: for one and B: for the other as a matter of course, that convention stuck so it would create more problems to let B: released to represent something else.

FYI I'm without floppy drive for more than 2 years.

You must be new to computes. B was used, the first computers, in the 1980's had two removable floppy drives, which where labeled A and B, so when hard drives started making their way into the systems it was designated to the letter C, and from there cdroms got the letter D, and other devices such as memory card readers, network drives, and zip drives took letters later on in the alphabet.
The floppy drive started to be fazed out with the introduction of the Apple iMac, the first mass production computer without a floppy drive.

drive letters a: and b: are used for floppy drives. a: is first one and b: is for a secondery floppy drive! if you have 2 floppys you can coppy faster or you can have two diffrent types of diskets. the older computers you need to swap disks all the time to run a program with 2 drives you could minimize swaping. ;) swaping floppys sucked!

drive B is reserved for second floppy drive, generally hard disk partation is set to starts from c drive and so only if u have second floppy drive r not the hard disk partation takes C as first partation , so if u attach second floppy drive then u can see it in system.
