I had a similiar problem it could due to various reasons:

1) ur pc has a virus
2) the computer gets over heated
3) too many applications are running at the same time

to avoid the hang ups, try not opening or using too many applications at once.. initially try going slow.. n if it still continues, i think u shud get a virus scan.. get a back up of all ur files, in case n clean up all the unwanted files...

if your machine is still under the warranty contact the concern company and ask for a system repair .. and if ur warranty is over then go to any computer technician who has the know how of computers and ask him to look into the matter.

Also if ur pc keeps getting heated in just a lil while.. you can get a cooler (its avaliable for laptops ) the cooler helps the laptop mainting its temperature and does not get over heated .

Hope this helps..
gd luck.

It happens when you have conflicting software on your computer. Or If you do not have an Antivirus, antispyware, firewall. Or If your windows registry is filled with obsolete entries. Or If you have a lot of programs running at windows startup. etc.
Try to go through each problem seperately.
1)To begin with, click on start > run
type msconfig. Press OK
Click on STARTUP tab.
Uncheck all unwanted entries there that you do not need at startup.Press Apply. Press Close. Press Restart to Reboot the computer.Check the box in the window that appears after startup and close it.

2)if possible uninstall some programs from your computer which are not essential.
(start > control panel >add/remove programs)
If your computer hangs doing that, then press F8 during reboot, and select to open the computer is SAFE MODE. Then uninstall some programs.

3) Run ccleaner

4) If the problem persists, then reinstall windows

Lots of item can slow down your PC like Malwares, Operating System Processes that are not required, badly configured startup lists, etc.

Before anything lets start with checking with the startup program list of your PC. I would suggest download a free small tool using which you can do lot of things like Crap cleaning, can edit the startup program list, Can uninstall programs intead of using Add/Remove programs in Control Panel, it is CCleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com ).

The above mentioned tool is a free tool which has the feature to edit the startup program list. Remove all the unnecessary/unwanted programs from it. Then reboot the machine and check the loading time.

You can use some good anti spyware/malware programs to check whether your system is infected by some Spyware/Malware - Ad-Aware SE Personal (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php)

Hope you can start improving the performance of your system by following the above mentioned steps.

Format your PC and install Windows XP cos it is the best. And if you are using Pentium 1 you can change or upgrade to Pentium 3 or 4 for better performance of your system.

Your ram isn't completely matched, they are working at somewhat distinctive frequencies. Annoyingly this could additionally be temperature dependant i.e. the fault can in basic terms take place (or no longer take place) while the device is warm or chilly. If the fault persists with matched ram then that's the motherboard controller

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
