without a doubt---way too lenient. my belief is that pedophiles and child killers should be sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole. they don't deserve to be on the street again!

To be honest I don't think there are any more or any less than there have ever been. We live in a media driven society which loves to have the details of every gory murder splashed across the papers. Some might say it's our right to know...I would agree to an extent...problem is who knows if we're being told the truth or not.
As far as tougher sentences go, yes, I think we should be tougher across the board on crime, however, until the government cough up money for more prisons or come up with another idea for punishment then I'm afraid Judges etc have to minimise the sentences as there just isn't enough room.

The only people that would think that are paedophiles and child murders.
I have resisted going into a complete rant on what should be done to them.
The bit I cant get to grips with is that apparently when these loons have done their time in USA their address is made known to the folk in the area, and the peados etc don't get harmed, I just cant weigh that up?
While I agree that their address should be known in the UK also (after their 6 months in jail) its not so I can visit to say "Welcome back into the community"!!!!!
I almost broke my pledge there about the complete rant, but I think I held it together OK in the end?
I'll take another pill, I'll be OK in a bit.

no the sentences are ridiculous. They get given life but then are out in a few years.....how is that life?!! if some kills someone then they should never be let out onto the streets again and as for paedophiles they should never be given the opportunity to be around children again. Im sorry but i think that if someone can do something like that they are obviously trouble in the head and even if probationers etc bleieve they have changed and wont reoffend.......whatever made triggered their behaviour before could so easily happen again.
Did anyone watch the panorama report on bail hostels? i couldnt their findings!!!

Several times my husband has watched a news show that occasionally bust sexual predators on the Internet. Many of the people busted in these stings are repeat offenders.
If sex predators had harsh enough sentences there would be no repeat offenders.
If they are more then 3 years older than the victim Lock-em up and throw away the key ! If it is clear case of involuntary rape (as opposed to under-aged kids of similar ages that were never taught to control there impulses in the back seat of a car) then throw away the key regardless of the age of the victim.
The ones who murder the victim should be executed.

As a mother and Grandmother I also worry about this problem. The authorities are worried about being sued if they 'deny' the perpetrator their human rights.
What they forget are the rights of those on whom these people prey.
Each right we have comes with its own responsibilities.
One of the most important responsibilities we all have is to protect the young and vulnerable.
If this means denying convicted paedophiles some of their rights then so be it, they have given up their rights by their actions.

No, they are not! They are let back into society, and then do it again, and again. Statisitics have shown that pedophiles don';t get "cured", no matter how much counciling. It's an illness, and they don't belong near children. Some solution should be enforced so that it can't happen..whether it's a tracking device, or long term lock up...whatever it takes to keep them away from kids.
As for the child murderers, never let them out; even better, put them to death!

Most instances of child abuse are commited by persons *known* to the child and its parents. Don't worry about 'these people out on the streets', just make sure that everyone that actually deals with the kids day to day is checked out and safe.

No, the law is too soft on these criminals. There is too much red tape these days. A lawyer could agree with you but the paperwork says that the criminal can walk free after a short time. Other countries dont let criminals get away with it - WHY do we pay taxes and look after them in jail, and if they're not in jail we let them out to re-offend, sometimes the criminals admit dont let me out i will do it again, but our system says we have to let them go - then what happens "NEWS HEADLINES" someone dead or child assualted.
Why dont we take the twisted sexual urge away from the peados by castrating them, they wont desire little boys and girls then will they. Cos locking them up isnt going to "repair" them is it.
Its messed up

No I don't think they are - but you shouldn't be over worried for your children.
Yes there are bad people out there, but the majority of people are still good and we shouldn't bow to media pressure about the risks of everyday living.
Just because it's in the news, doesn't mean it's in your street.
