Not a religious awakening.

Awakening comes from an extremely painful event .... one that breaks the heart into pieces, so to say. Comfort and normality simply breed slumber and sloth. Awakening is caused, not willed.
Sorry, not a palatable answer to your question, but reality often is unpalatable.

I don't think it can be forced actually! An awakening usually comes about on its own. An epiphany, a moment of clarity. Sometimes it can be following a major event in your life. Sometimes it comes unexpectedly in the most mundane moment. It's like a light being switched on all of a sudden. It's a magical feeling.
While you may not be able to force one, you may increase your chances of having one:
Read as much as you can in whatever you're passionate about.
Start writing, maybe keeping a journal every day. The more you get in the habit of writing, the more you learn about yourself & may make some meaningful insights.
Listen to classical music. It elevates the spirit.
Take a walk in the woods. Nature opens up your heart & mind, makes you feel more alive. Become open to the universe & it may speak to you.
Meditate. There are many books on the subject. You can try to reach another level of consciousness.

I'm thinking the fact that you want to force yourself means you're not ready yet. But if you want it enough it will probably happen soon. Brace yourself, coz it probably won't be pleasant...
