"Jamming" at a recording studio is basically a meeting between band members of the same band or it may also include members of another band. These people get together to play music, for the most part unrehearsed...

One person may start playing a melody and another will join in matching the tempo with thier instrument and soon all the people there have joined in on playing a song that may or may not be being recorded.

For the most part jamming is done as a source of enjoyment and experimentation. Many a song has come out of these jam sessions. But for that particular moment, it has no name and has no set notes. It's just random music until someone stops and says, "Hey, That sounded pretty good... Let's try that again."
