my periods stopped on10 apr this year which would make my baby due in jan. the midwife said i was 16wks when i first saw her she sent me for scan which showed i was 9wks and my due date was in mar. then i went back to see my midwife (whose a diff person all the time) she did my screening tests which came back perfect. but i thought screening only worked at 16 to 22 wks which meant i had to be at least 16 wks. my due date was mar since then but the last time i had an antenatal check-up they sed my baby would be here in jan. i asked to go for another scan but was told it would not give a date as the baby has everything he/she needs. How am i supposed to know when my baby will be here??? xx

Congratulations, normally the scan done before 20 weeks is the most accurate so its best to go from the date you were given then, with your antinatal check ups they should tell you how big your uterus it, for ever week it should grow 1cm for eg: 28 weeks = 28cm, Gowing from your last period the date I got are: As you said it stoped on april 10th I have asumed you started approximently april 4th:
Estimated conception: April, 18th 2006
Estimated due date: Jan 9th 2007
Estimated fetal age: 35 weeks, 1 day.

But these can be wrong as your baby's measurements early on are the best to go by, over 20 weeks its very hard to get an accurate due date as every baby grows differently even in the uterus. Therefore you could be smaller or larger then expected, but the earlier you have the ultrasound the more accurate as every baby grows very much the same up until week 20, then they just mature and gain weight. I hope this is insightful and has given some helpful advice. I wish you all the very best.

There is a 100% surefire way to know your due date.
It will be the day the baby is born.
That is the only foolproof way. All 'due dates' are guesses. They guess at the age of the fetus, they guess at the time of conception, and they guess, if you run exactly the textbook gestation period what the date will be. NOTHING is foolproof but waiting until the day the baby is born and calling that your due date. Sorry, its frustrating I know. FIgure within 2 weeks of the date you were giving originally (1 week either side), thats the best advice I can give you.
Congrats on your baby, be happy and tell the baby when YOU want it to get here...just not too soon! LOL

This sounds a bit like me... when i first found out i was pregnant. The doctor told me my due date was in january as my lmp was in april. But then when i went for my scan i went from 16+6 weeks to 11+6 weeks. Apparently the scan is really accurate and ive to take it that im due in feb but then another midwife says to me to be prepared incase i do go in january. It is all really confusing!

So i can't really answer your question but i know what your going through. I guess our babies will be here when they are ready. :D

if you told me the first day your last period started i could've had a date for you. you count how far you from the first day of yor last period. not when you ended, but when you sarted. i started mine on the 25 September and i am now 6 December 10 weeks and 3 days. so you can go and count or you can let me know your date and i can work it out for you. you can im me if you want good luck

just say your periods are like mine and are 5 days, you would've started on the 5th April 2006. that makes you: 35 weeks today. or 8 months. your due date is jan 10

If you go to
www.babyzone.com
or
www.babycenter.com

once you sign up you put in the first day of your last period and it will calculate it for you but also anytime you want you can go there and it keeps a record of how far you are, for example I went to babyzone today and it said : Hi, You are 18 wks, you have 154 days to go.

and it gives wonderful information and you can see pics of your big you baby is at a certain stage. It is pretty accurate...i mean I am actually 17 wks and 6 days.....so for me its a day off.
good luck!!

Well, looks like your going to have a time of it. If I was you I'd go by my own instincts, you must have some idea yourself when you fell pregnant going by your period date. The baby will come between 38 and 42 weeks on its own, when its ready. There are other signs too, your stomach will drop, some women even get that "look", you will know.

Usually from the scan the mid wife will know how old the baby is from the length of the bone or the size of the baby head. You can also try this website to calculate your baby due date from the first day of your last menstrual period; http://www.shoppinglifestyle.com/tools/duedate/index.asp

By hearing all I feel your baby will arrive in Jan. Still keep on doing regular check ups.

Oh my god how bad is that!

I would personally change doctors and midwifes. Sounds like them of them know what they are doing.

Or go to the anti-natal clinic at the hospital to see if they can help.
