You know, these are all stereotypes.
However, generally, I would say you are right.
Back when there were Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals, the women stayed near to the cave, while the men left to hunt. Perhaps these habits shaped our brains to function in different ways.
While the women foraged for nuts and berries and improved communication skills (for close proximity), there were many tasks completed, such as making small tools, or using their small-motor skills. Using these skills, it turn, improves attention span and cognitive skills.
The men, however, learned to complete different tasks. they were making spears, and improving their skills of hunting, by being aware of their surroundings, and using the larger muscle groups, improving that type of coordination (or large-motor skills)
Look at us now.
Women: Higher sat scores (in general), higher grades (in general), and decidedly better social skills.
Men: Better agility when it comes to sports (that's why we have dart games in bars), better spear chucking skills, and better impulse reactions (in general, in times of potential danger)
This comes from a scholar and a spear chucker

It is to do with nature, males have to be strong and so on... that's how the male mind works, and the women have to know enough for a future relationship and baby, the male has to be strong to protect the future woman and baby. So knowledge isn't a natural thing for some males, although I remember a report about 2 years ago that males had a higher average grade than girls for the first time leaving secondary school.

Boys have masculine, physical qualities that are being suppressed today, in my opinion. Sometimes they're even drugged for showing signs of normalcy or masculinity, instead of sittiing there rigid all day listening to some boring, willful and pushy hag.
That will usually either be labeled as "underachieving" or "ADHD," acccording to whatever term is poltically correct in a given area.

The women revolution in the 70s were trying to make things equal as they rightly deserved. However equality has been achieved and there is no slowing down of the feminist steam train. 20 years ago the male was achieving at at higher rate than the females and policies were put into schools to help females progress in the education system. This has been so successful that they bypassed the boys. I feel a bit sorry for the young males in school today as they have to repress every natural instinct they are born with whilst the females are encouraged to use and develop their natural instincts. This is one of the main causes that teenage boys are out of control.

It's not sterotypes.
Girls have always done better than boys academically whenever they have been given the oportunity.
Girls used to need higher marks at 11plus to go to grammer school. They used to better in 'girls subjects' until the national curriculum came in.

Students have to sit still longer and longer every passing year, and most boys, who want more physical activities, aren't cut out for it. But I believe that, just as we are teaching the girls to compete in a competetive world, we can teach boys to use their mental skills more efficiently. Helping them play outside more and having them join sports classes would help, I think. It helps girls to learn to compete. It also helps to remember that men and women are equal, but not the same.

Girls are more eager to please then boys. From a very early age we want to make people happy. This as we all know is not a trait boys/men tend to exhibit(unless it's their mothers). So girls do better in a social setting such as school.

we do catch up ! but because we are built differently physically and mentally we prioritise differently, girls mature quicker (mentally) boys remain boys and flex muscles to attract the opposite sex. academics aren't important at that stage.
