John Lennon he was his own man whereas Paul McCartney bowed down to the establishment. John had more depth and passion. Paul no denying a very talented bloke was so screwed up with his jealous over John he almost lost his way in life.

For The Beatles stuff i'd say McCartney for the slower ballads i.e. 'here, there and everywhere', 'i will', 'let it be', 'michelle' and Lennon for the more trippier stuff such as 'i am the walrus' 'come together', 'strawberry fields forever' and 'lucy in the sky with diamonds'.
As for the solo output, it's a bit inconsistent but i prefer Lennon's stuff.

I think Lennon is a bit more of a legend, but that doesn't mean McCartney's bad. In today's world of Z-list celebrities these 2 great men should really be appreciated.

They both had traumatic childhoods and met while at school, If i remember rightly both lost their mothers at a young age??

John was a loner and a deep thinker and somewhat oddball. This can only of helped with his creativity and the Beatles overall success.

John did sing with more passion, and his writing was excellent. He was also a good artist (painter) and put his soul into his 'work'.

Paul is good too, I saw him live a few years ago in concert, although I regret never seeing John, so i am going with John Lennon on this one RIP.
