Am I the only one to think that the wrestling on TV is utter pap. The ridiculous cotsumes, make up, names (and thats just the guys) Its so obviously choreographed and false. If anyone hit eachother with the frequency and ferocity that thes guys claim to, their hands and faces would be broken beyond recognition within minutes.
You cant even call it sport as the result of each bout is clearly known in advance. Somebody tell me whats the appeal

It isn't a sport. And they don't call it a sport. If you exclude kids from the equation (who gradually learn through the years that it's not "real" - kind of the same way they find out about Santa) then there is a general accepted contract between the audience and the performers that this is, essentially, a piece of physical theatre. It's circus, dance as you said, it's a soap opera. You can't criticise it for not being "real" - because it isn't meant to be - and the majority of the audience know this and accept this.

It's like watching a film with a fight sequence and saying "he's not really hitting him there... No he's not really dead - he's just acting. This is rubbish. I'm not watching this crap."

People enjoy it for other reasons - it's spectacle, circus, it's a soap opera. There are characters, plots, twists and turns. And let's not forget that the moves and stunts these guys do are seriously impressive. In that sense people can enjoy the skill and the feats of physical strength on show without it being an actual sport.

I'm afraid that point of view consistently falls with the narrow minded. Like i always say yes theres storylines and yes theirs gimics and plenty of bad acting but if you actually watch Raw Smackdown or ECW continually you'll see that these men actually get bashed up pretty bad and have to have major surgery. Your entitled to your opinion but can you actually argue with the fact that there has been people who have died inside the ring? No because its that real!!! :)

It is a crutch for the weak-minded as Jessie the body ventura stated himself. It gives people a way to vent their built up anger without even throwing a punch. So I personally don't see it as a bad thing. As long as people see it for what it is and it doesn't over inflate their egos, What harm is done?

It offers moments of extreme drama and the storylines used to be fantastic and are getting better again. many intelligent people have made a career of analyzing the industry and I myself have a respectable IQ of 133 and love the business. So I ask you, how is its fanbase predominantly gullible idiots? The phrase "marking out" refers to when a smark allows themselves to be caught up int he moment and suspend their disbelief ie they know it is fake but allow themselves to be carried along for the ride anyway
