Keep in mind that Nintendo has stated that this is going to be a gaming system, not a DVD or CD or MP3 download player. As stated on the NBC business network recently, they are aiming for attracting new gamers and a younger gaming crowd. Don't expect to see a lot of M rated games. If you are cool with this stuff then buy the Wii, if not, reconsider.
Also the earlier post with the link is definitely worth checking out.

I've seen a lot of people who don't play video games enjoy the Wii. My wife even enjoys playing the Wii sports.
It's priced to sell and the games have better graphics than the PS2 but not the PS3.
EA is starting to sell their older games through the Virtual Console that is available through your Wii via a wireless internet connection. Sim City is already available and many more are coming. Many older Nintendo games will be available for purchase in the same manner.
Some game publishers may sell their older games through the Virtual Console even if they never came out on any Nintendo.

smethansmee is wrong. the wii doesnt play DVDs. There is no lag with the controllers and it looks like a lot of fun. My advice get a wii and either a 360 or PS3 cos there both sorta the same whereas the wii is something different to anything else before

it all depends i have only had my PS2 for a couple of years and love it very much its one of the reasons i havent jumped the gun and bought a xbox360 straight away, i am now coming round to the idea of the xbox360 but i have always loved sword fightng and the idea of being able to do it myself, that is y the wii sounds great it is also the cheapest i do not know your budget but it is good if you have a small one. i have heard a lot about the new consoles and have not heard anything about a delay in the controllers, i would expect it to be able to play DVD's it has become sort of a comodity in consoles in this day and age but you may have to go to somewhere like gamestation to find out the actual answer

Wait until the PS3 comes out so you can choose between it the Wii and Xbox 360. If you have to decide before christmas then check out as many reviews as you can(independent ones not just ones from Nintendo) then choose.

the Wii is 100% no faults or defects , no lag on the controllers response time and the games have gotten better than the ones for the cube IE kids games
its a definate buy , xbox is great too
STAY AWAY FROM THE PS3! its over priced and the xbox and Wii have more superior graphics than the better more expensive PS3

I've got one on pre-order arriving 8/12 and I can't wait. Gonna get a sneak go on it, supposed to be for the kids, ahem!!!
I haven't read anything that was negative about it yet, and I have read a lot!!
I suppose the only way to know is to have a go, its all about the personal experience of it really isn't it.
