Good question....... led me to understand better.

Once we are dead, does it really matter to us if we are remembered for a long time by other mortals or not?

I think actions are important for what we can get out of them during our lifetime itself. Good actions, as opposed to evil ones, give us more lasting benefits through a sublime feeling of elation and moreover, we do not make enemies...... by good actions I mean those which are meant to help or benefit others rather than mere self serving ambitions.

Yes, karma, actions in thought, word & deed determine ones circumstances in life. we are the life of the body,We lived before we had this body and we will live after it is gone. This Karma is the only thing we carry with us when we leave this mortal body. Escape karma, find unity with God in unconditional love within your heart, then see God in all things,Life a rightious life of dharma, Living Gods will. The life of the body is immortal, one with God.
