Some people may try to take advantage of your honesty as they may believe that you are are also naive. Total honesty means that you will miss out on some things like special offers for students in shops and you tell them you are not a student.
I don't know what the side effects are; I guess it depends on how honest you are trying to be with people doesn't it?
It's not always good to be honest anyway. I remember reading some texts in my first years of uni about how it's good to lie. By lying you can save other people from being hurt or upset. And it can give you an easy life. If your friend came in with a terrible hairstyle and asked how it looked, what would your HONEST answer be?? Little white lies are always useful and therefore it means that a person cannot be totally honest doesn't it?
I don't think that honesty makes a superior being. What is a superior being anyway? I tell lies all the time (I'm lying right now!) about silly things ; how much I paid for my new shoes, what time I got home on Friday night/Saturday morning, if I like my boyfriends cooking etc and none of these lies hurt anyone nor make me less of a person.
By the way, I like your question, it has got me thinking!!

I believe that you are mistaken, Vijay. Even when in debt, honesty is the very best policy to maintain. And under pressure?
Again, any pressure you are experiencing would be alleviated by honesty.
But the most notible side effects of Honesty are these:
1. People consider you reliable.
2. Honest people have to remember fewer lies, than liars do.
3. A good reputation.
4. Usually a faster-moving/improving career.
5. Others come to you for advice, realizing that you will be honest with them.
6. A greater sense of well being.

A better life - as to your points about being under debt or under pressure - those are worse if you lie - your argument is flawed.
Good Luck!!!

One side effect I have experienced first hand is that people do not want the truth alot of the times.
I am blunt and to the point and many do not appreciate it. I will not change due to them but they now know not to ask me anything UNLESS they want the truth.
It is the right way for me to live MY life...

The biggest side effect is learning about yourself - that is if you're honest with yourself. Also, the reaction from the person(s) with whom you are being honest. No one can predict their reaction.

People only hear what they wanna hear. I mean in the sense that people will misconstrue your words and interpret it the way in which they want to...
...it's as if true honesty doesn't exist simply because of this.
