Because of special interests. It is in businesses interest to have laws passed to protect their 1) Investments domestic and overseas 2) Pass favorable trade agreements 3) Protect them from legislation that will hurt their sales 4) Give businesses part of the pork barrel 5) Give subsidies 6) Give em tax breaks. It is all intertwined with money.

Politics has power to bring undue gains to a business in the garb of Govt regulations and laws. Business can then make more money to share with the politicians who are in the business of politics to make money. This is the mutual interest that brings into being the unholy nexus between business and politics.
