i plan to have a pond.
i heard and saw of a "janitor fish"(looks like cat fish that sticks its mouth to everything) but i dont think it's called janitorfish.
i know that the waste of fishes, over time would make diseases and problems to the fishes.
are there fish that can get rid or eat of fish waste?
how would i keep my pond clean?

No. I know of no fish that eats fish poop. The ones already suggested will clean up algae and food debris, but not poop, and many suggested are NOT pond fish. They are tropical fish.

That is ridiculous, there are no fish or snails that eat fish crap. All they (snails) do is sort through it to find undigested bits of food that have passed through the digestive systems of the other fish. The scavenger fish do the same, but are looking for much larger pieces of edible food, not poop.

The poop stays,
Until it decays.

The fish waste decays into ammonia (as does the uneaten food) and the beneficial bacteria in your tank or pond break down the ammonia into nitrites and nitrates. Nitrates are used by plants (including algae) as food. All three are toxic to your fish, ammonia being the worst and nitrates the least (but still toxic).

The ammonia and nitrite build up in an aquarium should be removed by weekly 25-30% water changes. Never change 100% of the water, you kill all the beneficial bacteria and have to start the nitrogen cycle all over again.

I have heard that ponds are periodically drained and cleaned when the poop layer gets too deep. However, a good pond filter will go a long way toward keeping it cleaner and you may only have to stir it up to get the debris suspended in the water so the filter can catch it all. Remember, always buy a bigger filter than you need....

Good luck.

For a fish pond, put in carp or catfish, or suckers, they will be your bottom feeders and will "clean up" any mess...

You can get "algae eating carp" from your Co-operative extension office...(usually reserved for 10 acre or more lakes, and are sterile).

Have aeration for your pond, either a water fall, or mechanical aeartor, so that your fish wont suffocate from lack of oxygen!

Some aquatic plants will keep oxygen in the water in the sunlight, and it will suck the oxygen up at night...so, still some mechanical areation is required if its a big pond.

I wish you well..

For a pond i would recomend plecostomus fish they can grow quite large. I have seen some pleco's at around 3 feet in length. Most people call them little sucker fish.

ok your first option is get a algea eater or get a bullhead catfish and keep it with your fish it will eat what is deposited into the pond.
