I am a Libertarian and support the second amendment and am against all gun control. (I own no guns). I feel that grown ups should be allowed to be totally free to protect themselves and guns are a good way to do that. I encourage my four daughters to carry concealed handguns (with a permit of course) once they are adults as when they shoot bad guys who attack them, bad guys will leave them alone. I believe once the government outlaws guns (which they will), crime will increase and life in general will be less fun and carefree. Longterm, our biggest threat is the government, not guns.
I oppose public eduction due to the poor quality. I took my 5 yr old daughter out of public school because the school made her attend a demonstration of agressive hand to hand fighting. The government does not understand how to nurture children and she was very troubled by this. We then home schooled her and she is now on scholarship at an Ivy league college.
Schools should be privatized so children can be taught more effectively things like writing, math, science and civics. The problem now is that bad teachers cannot be fired; there is no accountability. But if schools are done by companies, teachers would be required to deliver quality education and our nation would be much stronger.
It will be a long shot to elect a libertarian. I think most people want the European style of huge government and 60% taxes and I expect that will be our government in 30 years; most people do not want to think for themselves and that is what liberty requires.
Most people want the government to dictate as much of life as possible. Great questions. thanks.

I suppose so. It is always difficult to classify someone as all just one category. But the gun one is pretty unusual. I am a libertarian. And I have never met any libertarian who takes that position. Libertarians believe it is not only a Second Amendment issue--but a basic right not given up in the making of the consitituion.
Most libertainas are not real keen on public education. We believe that to a large extent it has been a failure, is inefficient and expensive. It is certainly the most burdensome tax on the local level. There is no doubt in my mind that better education could be provided thorugh private schools. If there was not public education others would get into the business of providing education and it would be of greater quality and less expensive. With the tax burden gone the problem of paying tuition would disappear to a large extent. But, there would still need to be a voucher system. I am quite sure this would be much less expensive than the bueracracy heavy public education of today.
But, like I said, you do not have to pass every test to be a libertaian. For example I am pro-life. Most libertarians are not. But there are some. I belong to a group "Libertarians For Life"
I kind of doubt that the current National Libertarian Party will ever be a major party. But it is possible. But there are politicians to more or lesser degrees libertarians. For example, Barry Goldwater was very libertarian, as was Ronald Reagan to a large degree.
