Thank you for a good question.... most of us do get confused about these two.

Joy is an emotion ..... the opposite of sorrow. Happiness is an emotionless state.

Joy gives excitement and has a physical dimension such as impact on the BP, facial expressions etc. Happiness denotes a tranquil mind or calmness without physical ramifications.

Joy reduces stress momentarily...happiness removes stress.

Money can buy joy and pleasures, not happiness.

Joy is a positive imbalance of mind... happiness is a perfectly balanced mind.

Joy like all other emotions can blunt our logic faculty.... happiness sharpens all our faculties including logic.

aside from their spelling........joy is quite a part of happiness while happiness is a well-state of the mind and the heart.....you felt joy because you've done something good or yu' v been with your friends..you are happy because you have peace of mind despite of everything which sometimes seems so bad at all

As far as I think, joy is the great happiness or happiness that is mixed with disorder.

Joy is about feeling and as such a feeling.
Happiness is about state and as such a being.
The difference is sensation versus self.
