I used to use Ralgex years ago. As I remember it, you applied it and about 10 minutes later you wish you hadn't! It felt like you were burning up - but it did the trick!

I have tried Ralgex and Transvasin but neither have any heat in them at all. I was particularly disappointed with the Ralgex as i expected better results.

Does anyone know of a commercially available heat rub that produces the effects of the old Ralgex?

I have also tried to find some Firery Jack but with no luck. It must be called something else or is it just mythical?

i am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and i can tell you that all of these linments aren't much good. You should try ARNICA CREAM You should go and see a massage therapist. I have a lot of patients with your problem and after 2 or 3 treatment they feel the results. Also aromatherapy oils in your bath are of great benefit. I charge £20 for a session. So shop around for about £20 to £25 any more than that and your been over charged. i also use acupressure for the same problem

As someone who suffers from a muscular complaint, I can tell you that there are a number of things that might help.
Tiger Balm is good, but there is also a Tiger Balm Oil and this is really serious stuff.
You might also consider Olbas Oil as an alternative as I have found this particularly good at getting to the heart of the pain.
As for the guy who said there is no evidence these work, he is absolutely right, but I have my own experience and know they have helped me. This is particularly true for Olbas Oil when rubbed into the affected part and then you get into a nice hot bath. The heat from the bath combines with the effect of the oil and increses the effect.
You can do this with Tiger Balm oil as well, but this makes a very serious linament and can be uncomfortable.
Also make sure you don't rub your eyes or gto to the loo without giving your hands a thorough scrub...

Unfortunately there is no clinical evidence that these rubs or ointments actually do any good.

They only penetrate a few layers of skin, so there's zero chance of them reaching the muscles where the problem lies.

Best idea is to use painkillers to ease the discomfort, physio if necessary and exercise when the pain is gone.

I hate smelling like menthol and eucalyptus...I use the old heat, ice and Motrin. I heat with a heating pad and then use an ice pack on sore muscles. If the soreness is still there I make an appointment for an hour massage.

Vicks Vapor Rub is a topical anelgesic. That means pain reliever you rub on top of the skin. I live off of it. I have Fibromyalgia. I keep a jar near everywhere I go. I have one in my purse, one in my work uniform pocket, one in the living room, bathroom, my bedroom, grandma's room, and a last one by the telephone in the hall. That's seven jars. I am a big believer.
