Luongo is an awesome goalie (i dont know about the best though). He has no team for him to backup though. He has no defense. Look at Hasek, he is old and i would not call him the best any more even though he has some of the best stats in the league. The only reason he has such good stats is his team makes him look good because he has the arguably best defense in the league in front of him. Luongo is definatly worth the money, hands down.

You're making a judgment on a guy after 1/4 of the firsdt season after an off-season move? Look at Hossa...it takes usually until year two to settle in after off-season deals. I think a .911 save pct. is damned good. GAA is a bogus stat and is about overall Team D not just the netminder.

Canuck fans...gotta luv 'em. How long have we had an NHL team and you doofuses still don't get it?

How about picking on Wimpden, Naslund, Cookey or Morrison for being stiffs? Would you rather spend less money and have Cloutts or Auld in nets? Look, last year's team was never going to go deep in the playoffs ever...this year's team maybe it won't but I'll take my chances with Luongo, if the idiotd can score a bit more and actually get us into the playoffs.

You can't blame him for the team that he's playing for, the Vancouver Canucks. You look at the Ducks and you think that Gigeure is a good goalie. No way, he looks good because of the defense in front of him (like Scott Niedemayer and Chris Pronger).
The Canucks on the other hand only have Ohlund. Right now the Canucks are only 4 points out of first in the Northwest division, thanks to Luongo. Yeah, I think he's a bit overpaid; he's probably worth about 5 million or around that figure. Luongo is not overated. He has won international titles for Team Canada. Plus he has appeared in all of the Canucks games except for 2( the backup goalie is horrible)!

He is Vancouver's best player.

I would say maybe Vancouver should have spent part of the money on a decent defense to back him up. He is standing on his head out there! And I'd add there IS no back up goalie to go to that would give him a rest.

Vancouver lost some key defensemen last year. And if you see some of the goals going in they are pin-balling in after bouncing off a couple of sticks and skates. Sometimes those make the goalie look bad, when they are impossible to save and are mistakes by rookie defensemen.

It's the same old story. They take so much of the teams available moneys that there is none left to build a team with. Greedy players could learn from people like Ray Bourque who only wanted to be paid fair

There is no way that Luongo he is the best golie this league has seen since Patrick Roy. If the Canucks didn't have Luongo they would be in the cellar. The only other players they have are the Sedins and they can't score.

I don't think he is. I put him in the same class of goalie as say Robert Esche. Get a good team around him and he's great, but they don't make the team better because they are there. Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy, etc. are the kind of goalies to build a team around.

to add to JOHN's comment regarding Jiggy...
If that's true about niedermayer/pronger helpin' him out..
then why does jiggy face 40+ shots on goal?
He's an awesome goalie..if anything he's saved both their asses numerous times...watch some DUCKS' hockey..
it's on YAHOO NHL tonight against nashville.

and Luongo is a good goalie...overrated but solid nonetheless.

He is worth every penny they pay him. He has a crappy team in front of him. With the team as crappy as they are he's lucky his stats aren't worse.
