Why does the YMCA ask what your race is when you join?

As a non-profit organization they solicit donations. It may be used to put some stats together and make donors feel good about donating to an organization that has x% of a certain race.

I don't answer those questions. Colleges ask it, jobs ask it. They claim it's for statistical purposes only.
