Mothers are there to harass, annoy and generally make our lives miserable.

It's a taste thing. Mothers are a different generation and have vastly different ideas of what looks good. Mine is always trying to encourage me to wear my hair really big, like in the 80's, lol!!! And she says my hipster jeans look silly.
Don't sweat it. It could be a lot worse. I have a friend whose mother is convinced she is too fat and keeps telling her to lose weight- she is a reasonable size 10 with nice curves- but her mother is a product of the 70's when the waif look was in. People tend to stick with the fashions and tastes from when they were young.
Frankly, if my mother tells me she really likes something I'm wearing I worry that my outfit is dated and boring!
She means well, she just wants you to look like her. Bless.

She feels her little girl growning up, and seeing you taking the time and energy into looking good, gives less time and energy for time spent with her. She wants to take control, of what she feels she may of already lost... she yearns to be a mother again, and that is to be over protective, concerning and dictating.
Spend some time with her, explain about your needs, and also understand hers. Hopefully, this chat will make you grow closer.. and be able to take each other lifes and the way they are lived in a more respectful manner.

Because she likes knowing she's right and she's just saying it for the sheer hell of saying something, because she probably doesn't know anything about it. Luckily I was blessed with a trendy, open minded mother. HER mother on the other hand is a complete nightmare when it comes to that sort of thing. She wouldn't know fashion if it slapped her in the face.

Sorry I am often reported to the Fashion Police so I am unable to give you any advice
Start off by Liking yourself as it is the first step to Loving yourself, but not in a vain way
Wear what makes you feel good and happy and this will bring out the best in you and that is what the interviewer really wants to see

I really wouldn't worry too much about your mum's comments. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and you have to remember that she is a different generation. As for your boyfriend, I'm sure he loves you as you are.
Above all else, you should dress how YOU feel comfortable and at your best. It sounds to me like you have a very respectable wardrobe...... Good luck with the interview!

I guess it is a matter of taste really. If left to herself my little girl would dress all in pink and would think herself awesome, but I like to add a few more colours unto her. The thing is, she is awesome whatever she wears, but our tastes are different.
My mother thinks I'm great in a business suit but I like my relaxed pants better. And I don't fret about it. Take it easy.

maybe she's trying to boost your confidence by telling you, that you like nice (if so it appartently hasn't worked) could it be that she says things liek that when you're wearing clothes more similar to the clothes she wears? She apparently likes the office look, just beause you and her don't agree on clothes doesn't mean that you need to fret about ghow you usually look, if you try that hard to look good you probably look great.

I'm sure she just wants to protect to from the "lurking eyes" of men...Kinda old fashioned to be honest. I think you should try to relax a bit, it can't surely be too important. All that matters is that you feel comfortable in the way you dress.

Elle Dee - Let me give you one word why mothers do this.
It is LOVE. Yes, she loves you, cares for you, wants nothing but the best for you. She wants you to shine in the interview. She wants you to be likeable for this boy when you go on a date. She wants you to excel in everything.
Yes, they are a pain in the derriere. They can be overbearing sometimes. But, hey understand where it is coming from.
You know when all this will dawn on you? When your child is a teen. Yup, this cycle goes on ad infinitum.
