The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Gym Biz: Starting and Running Your Own Gym for Profit by Lou Ravelle
* Small Club Start-up: A Personal Trainer's Guide by Ron Fay
* The Business of Fitness: Understanding the Financial Side of Owning a Fitness Business by Thomas Plummer
* Making Money in the Fitness Business by Thomas Plummer

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

dpends on what you plan to offer.my friend opened a gym about 10 years ago.i will say start off by buying good solidly built equipment so you wont be replacing it often.check out busybody or smith for the best.we have baer but they went out of business.dont go overboard at first.also check on a key system and go 24/7 with only members with a electronic key can get in.you can program them and delet them if they dont pay.also check out the arnold classic that will be coming up soon in columbus.

I would assume you need a lot more than that. The best place to look for help in starting a small business is the small business association. Not Only they will find old execs to help you figure out the problem of starting a business, but they might help you find government backed loans as well.
