smileys on msn messenger?

when ever someone sends me smileys on msn messenger..all i see is : D or : ) instead of actual smileys...do i need to download something or what?

you COULD have them deactivated

try going Tools -> Options -> Messages -> and make sure Show Emoticons and Show custom emoticons are checked

follow these steps
Open MSN Window / Tools / Options / Messages ( on the lift bar ) / click beside Show emoticons + show custom emoticons

You may need to have the latest version of the Messenger.
