Although you can't do anything to prevent other users from bidding on any auction, you can simply make a judgment call with your bid. At the last 30, decide, how much am i willing to pay for this item? Then as the clock expires enter your highest (maximum) bid, that you are willing to shell out.

Ebay is essentially highest bid wins, not last bid wins.

There are services such as esnipe that automatically places bids for you, accurate to the second.

There is no way to block others from bidding, but the trick I use to get items that works pretty well (but not all the time since I am unwilling to go higher than some people will) is to be there in the last few minutes of the auction. See what the item is going for and bid higher in the last 30 seconds or so, timing it so that your bid gets in at the last second. It takes a bit of practice, so you might try it on a low-priced item at first. Always add a few cents to the end of the bid so that the other person will be outbid by one or two cents. For example, if the article is being bid 10.99 then bid your maximum plus one cent like 20.01. That way, if they bid 20, it will be not quite enough.

Have you looked for the same item and done a search on all of Ebay ? You may find it cheaper or on a buy-it-now.

You can try to use a Snipe program but you have to give a limit bid to the sniper and if the bid goes over; you lose.

what I try to do, is actually not bid on it until the very end of the auction, I mean minutes away. Hopefully there is no one sitting at their computer doing the same. This has worked several times. Good luck.

Get your bid in fast before end of bidding.
