I've seen ones on eBya that you strap to your ankle or thigh, and they send a powerful vibration. After a while, if you're not up, they produce a very low electric shock (not harmful, but enough to wake you up for sure).

I've never heard of an alarm clock that guarantees you to wake up. But I have seen several that are interesting, including a few that use sounds AND light to wake you up. The light gets increasingly brighter (simulating the sunrise). But if you sleep through anything, that wouldn't work. A friend of mine lived in Jordan awhile ago and got this Mosque alarm clock thing, and it's like a Muslim prayer being sung or something, but very loudly and it definitely woke me up. Some cell phones, including mine come with a lot of ringtones that can be really annoying when you're sleeping and would wake you up. Several alarm clocks going off on the other side of the room is something I've tried. I've also stuck notes with huge bold letters that say "WAKE UP YOU HAVE TO DO (insert important event) TODAY!" that remind me not to go back to bed. When I used to have to get up at 3 AM to work, I was almost able to wake myself up most days, frequently waking up before my alarm clock because I just knew I had to wake up. If you continually think about what you have to do the next morning while you're falling asleep, it may help you get in that habit of waking yourself up. No guarantees, only my personal opinion.

Doing a quick Google search I also found alarm clocks that shake and rattle when they go off, one that you can set a different alarm for each day of the week so you don't get used to the same sound, and a strange invention called "Clocky". It's an alarm clock with 2 wheels and when you hit the snooze button, it rolls off your bedside table and finds a place to hide in the room, and the alarm goes off again, making you have to get up and search for it therefore waking you up fully. I don't know if it's being produced yet or anything but you may want to keep an eye on their site, http://www.nandahome.com/

All I did on Google was type in "Alarm clock" to come up with several options. Do some research online and you're bound to find something! Of course, I think the best way to ensure you'll get up is having another person there to drag you out of bed. Good luck!

I generally sleep through alarm clocks. I've seen slept through my mom dumping ice water on me. The best alarm clock i've found is a Nature Sounds timex. There is a water one on there, thats the sound of the ocean. It starts off low and gets really loud. Even if the annoying notice doesn't wake up you, it makes you have to pee. It really helps wake me up.

Plus, I couple that will my cell phone on an alarm one minute after my actual alarm clock, and I place my cell phone on the other side of my room.
It helps so I don't subconsciously hit my alarm clock and go back to bed.

I slept thru them all, even the traditional mickeymouse looking one (2 bells on top) stuck in a metal bin on the other side of the room!
But I found one that works and have stuck with it for over 10years now! occaisionally if i go away and try something at wherever i`m staying it dont work - only the clock I got 10years ago does!
I dunno what brand it is but it has a button u hit that talks the time and when the alarm goes off it goes 'COCKADOODLEDOOOOOOCOCKADOOOODLEDOOOOOOO' for about 5 mins solid!
so if its any help, look out for a talking clock that goes 'cockadoodledoo'!
ps. just looked, the brand is called 'Ross'.
pps. i have kids and pets - the alarm clock works better!!!!

My son used to sleep thru them all too. Even the special ones they make that is sooooo very loud right next to his ear.

Than he grew up, got a real job, got married and responsible. He's up at 2:30 every morning now going to work and works til 7pm. He even wakes up without the alarm now!!

I have the same problem. Apparently a baby is the best alarm clock of all, if you are ready for the responsibility.

there is a timer you can purchase to turn you home stereo into an alarm clock. If your stereo is any good you should be able to wake up not only yourself but the neighbors as well.

I use my cell phone on vibrate. For some reason this really startles me awake.

Also try going to bed earlier, perhaps you're not getting enough sleep?

look at the one on Wallace and Grommit - the bed tilts, it dresses him, plunks him at the breakfast table and if he doesn't wake up and get sorted he gets a faceful of jam! :)
