In the device manager there is something called Ethernet Controller, is that it?

It has a yellow question mark by it as does everything under "other device"

If you have a setup disk for your router, re-run that setup. As Jemy suggests, it is probably because your router is not recognizing your computer anymore.

Update:
It looks like you do need to install the drivers for all the things listed in that other section. Find the "drivers" disk that came with the computer and insert it into the cd drive. In the device manager, right click on the eithernet adapter, then go to properties or to update drivers if that shows. It should find the drivers on that cd you inserted and install them. Repeat this for any other device listed there in the other section of the device manager.

Since you did a clean install, you need to reinstall the drivers for your components. Go to to device manager and find all the yellow marked components and jot down their name and model numbers. Then go to their respective websites and download the drivers for them. Reboot your computer and everything should be working.

did you try reporting all your hardware including your modem and router, and then if that does not work check your device manger and see if your wireless card status , you might need to reinstall the driver for your wireless card from the disk that came with your card , last resort is to release and renew your ip address on the router , then if that does not work then try the same for your wireless card
